Prime Minister of Portugal, António Costa, will be the keynote speaker at the 37th Annual Heritage Day of Portugal to be celebrated on June 25th, sponsored by the Massachusetts Portuguese American Legislative Caucus (PALC).
According to the announcement by Senator Marc R. Pacheco (D-Taunton) and State Representative Antonio F. D. Cabral (D-New Bedford), co-chairmen of the Massachusetts Portuguese American Legislative Caucus, the 37th Annual Heritage Day of Portugal will be celebrated virtually on Friday, June 25th at 11:00AM.
The event, typically celebrated in-person at the State House in the House Chamber, will once again shift to a virtual event highlighting the accomplishments of Portuguese Americans in our community. Enjoy the music and the conversation from home.
The public will have full access to the virtual celebration of the Portuguese American Community. The event will be livestreamed, available on the Legislature’s website, and can be viewed at https://malegislature.gov/Events/SpecialEvents/Detail/378
The Massachusetts Portuguese American Legislative Caucus (PALC) is a bicameral, bipartisan group of legislators who work to develop strong ties between Massachusetts and the larger Portuguese-speaking world. PALC advocates for language-support programming and opportunities for Portuguese-speakers in the Commonwealth. The caucus currently has 14 members who can trace their backgrounds to mainland Portugal, the Azores, Madeira, Cabo Verde, and Brazil. The Heritage Day of Portugal celebration is the premier event coordinated by the caucus. About 300,000 Massachusetts residents are of Portuguese descent, the majority with roots in the Azores.
