The February 2011 issue of News Photographer magazine features Portuguese-American New York Times contracted  photojournalist,  João Silva , as he continues to recover from injuries suffered when he stepped on a land mine in Afghanistan covering American troops, and at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, in Washington, where he is recovering.

Recently the Frontline Club honored  João Silva and friends have set up the Friends of Silva website to help raise money for his recovery.
