Travel | TAP Air Portugal expands U.S. service with new routes – Portugal

TAP Air Portugal has significantly expanded its network in the United States with the launch of new direct flights from Lisbon to Los Angeles and Porto to Boston.

These new routes reinforce TAP’s position as a leading transatlantic carrier and mark a major step in its strategic growth across North America.

TAP’s new Lisbon–Los Angeles route officially launched on May 16, 2025, operating three times per week on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. A fourth weekly flight, on Saturdays, will be added beginning May 26, 2025.

This service makes Los Angeles TAP’s eighth U.S. destination, joining New York (JFK), Newark (EWR), Boston (BOS), Miami (MIA), Washington, D.C. (IAD), Chicago (ORD), and San Francisco (SFO).

Additionally, TAP initiated operations from Porto. As of May 14, 2025, TAP has launched a new Porto–Boston route, offering four flights per week and expanding connectivity from northern Portugal.

Beyond its direct services, TAP Air Portugal offers extensive connectivity throughout the U.S. via codeshare agreements with United Airlines and JetBlue. This allows passengers to book seamless itineraries from various U.S. cities to Portugal and beyond, with convenient connections through TAP’s U.S. gateways.

TAP will also introduce a new stopover in Terceira (Azores) on its weekly Tuesday flight between Lisbon and San Francisco starting 3 June, replacing Azores Airlines between Terceira and Oakland, to serve the large Azorean diaspora living in California.

TAP Air Portugal operates an all-Airbus fleet, including the Airbus A330-900neo and A321LR for transatlantic routes. With over 90 destinations in 30 countries, TAP connects Portugal with Europe, Africa, North America, and South America. It maintains a strong leadership position in the Europe–Brazil market, operating more flights to Brazil than any other European airline.

Founded in 1945 and headquartered in Lisbon, TAP is the national airline of Portugal and a proud member of the Star Alliance since 2005, offering customers a global network and loyalty benefits.
