Portugal was voted best hostel destination in the world at the 12th edition of the Annual Hostel Awards by Hostelworld.
According to the “Hoscars” Customer Annual Ratings, Portugal was voted the country with the largest number of awarded categories (19) and hostels (11), being Lisbon the city with more “Hoscars” (15 in total). Only Italy, the United States and Spain came close with six top hostels each.
Portugal was also voted as having thee second and third best hotels in Europe with Lisbon having the two top “Best Medium Hostels” (Home Lisbon Hostel and Travellers House) and Porto having the “Best Largest Hostel” in the world (Tattva Design Hostel). In addition, Portugal was voted tops in the categories of “Best Hostel for the Money” (Tattva Design Hostel/Porto); “Best Hostel Facilities” (Tattva Design/Porto); and “The Cleanest Hostel” (Home Lisbon Hostel).
The winners are chosen by world travelers, based on their overall score, in six categories – fun, cleanliness, staff, security, location and character. About one million customers voted for the hostels “Hoscars” online.
