Travel: Portugal named top most country to visit in 2013 – Globe Spots

Portugal has just been named by travel guide Globe Spots, number one in their top 10 list of countries to travel in 2013.

According to Globe Spots, Portugal “oozes ‘old European charm” and history: “Medieval towns and historical quarters are full of squares, churches and monasteries. Narrow lanes are flanked by old skew houses with crooked balconies draped in drying laundry.”

In Portugal, visitors will find a slower place of living and will sit with locals in small squares sipping on a glass of Tawny Port. It is still the place where neighbors “share the latest gossip or discuss politics from their windows. Pastry shops and taverns are found in such abundance it makes you wonder whether the Portuguese eat at home at all,” says Globe Spots.

Other countries in the Globe Spots top 10 list include: Mozambique, followed by Kyrgyzstan, Panama, Armenia, Rwanda, Cuba, Ukraine, Malawi and Canada.

Mozambique, a former Portuguese colony, with a 2,500 km coastline, great islands, idyllic beaches and colonial history, is a place not to be missed.

Globe Spots is an online alternative independent travel guide which mission is to inspire travelers to venture beyond conventional travel destinations.
