The Government of the Azores in partnership with the Association of Teachers of Portuguese in the United States and Canada (APPEUC) is co-sponsoring the 22th Meeting of Teachers of Portuguese in the United States and Canada being held July 3-6, in Praia da Vitória, Terceira, Azores.
Under the theme Nos Mares da Língua Portuguesa [The Seas of the Portuguese Language] the meeting, brings together about one hundred participants from the Azores, continental Portugal, the United States, Canada and Bermuda.
Held every two years, the event aims to providing teachers with new pedagogical tools to better integrate the teaching of the Portuguese language and culture in the American and Canadian systems of public education.
Established in 1994, President Dinis Borges, the mission of the APPEUC is to promote the teaching of the Portuguese language in North America by providing support to the teaching of Portuguese at the heritage language schools and at the private and public schools in each one of the respective hosting country.
