The Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD), in partnership with the Fulbright Commission in Portugal, the Camões Institute and the North American Portuguese Teachers Association, have announced the launching of the Summer School in Portugal for Teachers of Portuguese in the United States project, created to promote the teaching and learning of the Portuguese language and culture.
The project, scheduled to run from July 2 through July 13, is administered and certified by the School of Humanities of the University of Lisbon.
The program includes a curricular section aimed at the deepening and improvement of competences in the teaching of Portuguese language and culture and field visits aimed at the immersion in Portuguese society and culture (museums, tourist walks, institutions, etc.).
Limited to 20 participants, target groups include teachers of Portuguese language and culture in United States educational establishments, lecturing at basic, secondary and university levels.
Costs are estimated at US$4,000 per participant to include fees, flights, accommodation, meals and local transport for the cultural program. Scholarships are available to selected applicants. The applications must be submitted by April 22.
