A team of Portuguese researchers discovered a “broad spectrum” cancer suppressor  – called LRP1B – which acts by removing proteins crucial for cancer development from the tumor environment.

LRP1B is a protein/receptor on the cell membrane with the function to carry molecules from outside to the inside of the cell.

The team includes researcher Hugo Prazeres and Paula Soares from the Molecular Pathology and Immunology Institute of the University of Porto (IPTIMUP)   along  with colleagues Fernando Rodrigues and Teresa Martins from the Portuguese Institute of Oncology of Coimbra.

The study is published in the journal Oncogene.
