Position | Visiting Professor of Portuguese Studies – UMass Lowell

The Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD) in Lisbon, Portugal, and the Saab Center for Portuguese Studies in the University of Massachusetts Lowell College of Fine Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences announce the FLAD/Saab Visiting Professorship in Portuguese Studies for Spring Semester 2026.
 
This program sponsors a one-semester, open-rank, Visiting Professor of Portuguese Studies at UMass Lowell. The position is open to Portuguese Academics presently teaching at a university in Portugal or abroad. 
 
The program contributes a Portuguese academic perspective to the curriculum of the College of Fine Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences and, more specifically, supports the Portuguese Studies Program at UMass Lowell and the mission of the Saab Center for Portuguese Studies. The program further enhances the University’s relationship with the regional Portuguese American community. 
 
For Spring Semester 2026,  the Saab Center for Portuguese Studies is seeking a visiting professor in the academic areas of History, Political Science or Sociology/Anthropology. The Visiting Professor will teach up to two courses in English and deliver one or more public lectures in their area of expertise. The program provides a competitive one-semester salary stipend.  Minimum qualifications required include  a Ph.D. in hand in History, Political Science or Sociology/Anthropology. Applications received by April 25, 2025 will be considered in the first review of candidates, but the position will remain open until filled.
