The Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture/Tagus Press (CPSC/TP) and the Department of Portuguese at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth are seeking candidates for the Hélio and Amélia Pedroso/Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD) Endowed Chair in Portuguese Studies for the Spring term of 2026 (January to May).
The applications will continue to be accepted until the search is concluded, but the search committee will begin its review of candidates after March 15.
Established in 2004 by the CPSC/TP, the Hélio and Amélia Pedroso/Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD) Endowed Chair in Portuguese Studies allows for the appointment of a distinguished scholar, professor and/or author, specializing in any area of the humanities and social sciences of the Portuguese-speaking world.
It is a rotating, visiting distinguished scholar program that supports the graduate programs in the Department of Portuguese and the research objectives and publications of the CPSC/TP.
The Endowed Chair will teach one graduate course on the topic of their expertise and is expected to contribute to the event and publication agenda of the CPSC/TP. Previous holders of the Endowed Chair since 2005 are listed here.
The CPSC is one of three units devoted to Portuguese at UMass Dartmouth, along with the Department of Portuguese and the Ferreira-Mendes Portuguese-American Archives.

It provides research fellowships for cultural projects, artist residencies, and research projects. Established in 1985, it aims to strengthen ties between Portugal and the United States through initiatives in science and technology, education, and the arts and culture.
