The Hawaii Island Portuguese Chamber of Commerce (HIPCC) announced the Dennis G. Aguiar Portuguese Day-in-the-Park event to take place at Gilbert Carvalho Park, in Hilo, on Sunday March 6, from 9am. to 1pm .
The event is held each year by the HIPCC to celebrate the Portuguese cultural heritage in the state of Hawaii with food and music.
Highlights include free servings of Portuguese bean soup and stone-oven bread, pão doce (sweet bread), homemade Portuguese sausage, malassadas, cebola (Portuguese pickled onion), and Portuguese hot dogs.
Dennis G. Aguiar (1938-2004) , was born in Pepe’ekeo, Hawaii, where he worked for the American Savings Bank as assistant vice-president and loan officer. He served as president for the Hawaii Island Portuguese Chamber of Commerce.
