MiratecArts | International Short Film Competition – Pico, Azores

MiratecArts has launched an international competition to support short film productions on Pico Island, Azores is open to writers, directors, or producers who are Portuguese citizens living abroad or of Portuguese descent.

The award “Prémio Curta Pico” for the Portuguese Communities Around the World, in its second edition, seeks proposals for short films (7–15 minutes) that will be at least 60% shot on Pico.

Key requirements include: (1) Proposal must be submitted by a Portuguese citizen abroad or a Portuguese descendant (documentation required); (2) Films must prominently feature Pico Island—its history, traditions, landscape, or community; (3) Submissions are due by 11:59 p.m. (Azores time) on November 1, 2025 via info@mirateca.com, with CV and application.

The selection process, overseen by a local jury from Pico’s three municipalities, will select three finalists. Finalists will be announced during the Montanha Pico Festival in January 2026 and move to pre-production (budget, team, script) by March 1, 2026. The winner will be announced by May 1, 2026.

Production support includes a 2-week stay in Madalena, Pico (January 2027) for up to 6 people. MiratecArts will co-produce and assist with logistics, valued at approximately. €5,000. No direct funding is provided, but support letters for external funding will be offered.

Exhibitions of awarded production are guaranteed screening at the Montanha Pico Festival 2028, with MiratecArts assisting in submitting the film to other festivals.
