Thousands of people packed churches across Madeira on Sunday February 20, to mark the first anniversary of the devastating floods which killed 42 and left more than 100 injured and about 600 homeless.
One year ago on February 21, floods in Madeira swept everything in their path, people, cars, homes and business. But one year later the situation has changed dramatically. After the recovery effort Madeira is open for business.
The year 2011 is full of promise for tourism in Madeira with the local tourist board running a series of advertising campaigns worldwide to attract more visitors, namely through Facebook and other social networks, to assist the promotion of Madeira across borders.
