The Faculty of Letters at University of Lisbon and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the New University of Lisbon, are hosting an International Conference on the Luso-American Experience, titled ”Neither Here nor There, Yet Both,” to be held in Lisbon, Portugal, July11-13, 2013.
The Conference aims at becoming a forum on Luso-American diasporic exchanges, as observed from a variety of disciplinary fields (literary, linguistic, sociological, historical, cultural, and others), and with the worldwide participation of those who study, live, endure or enjoy such experiences (scholars, writers, readers, community workers and supporters).
Objectives and goals include the significant emergence of new approaches to the heritage of Portuguese-speaking people and their descendants in North America, which includes the expression of varied Lusophone communities.
The conference will host plenary lectures, dedicated panels and roundtables, parallel paper sessions, creative writing, translation workshops, and public readings. To enrich the conference experience, it is also our goal to generate synergies with relevant community events and entities.
The University of Lisbon Centre for English Studies and the Centre for English, Translation and Anglo-Portuguese Studies are calling for papers, inviting all interested parties to submit a 300 word abstract for panels or individual papers.
Deadline for abstracts February 15, 2013. Notification on the acceptance of abstracts is March 31, 2013. Selected papers are expected to be published in an international peer-reviewed publication.
Working languages are English and Portuguese. Abstracts should be sent to luso.american.conf@gmail.com
