Portugal was awarded 16 top prizes at the ‘World Travel Awards’ in over 10 categories voted by travel agents worldwide. Considered the “Oscar” of tourism, the awards recognize Portugal as a most favored European destination for over 15 million tourists each year.
The 2015 announcement ceremony took place yesterday, September 6, in Sardinia, Italy. Portugal had received 78 nominations.
Algarve was vote ‘Europe’s Leading Beach Destination’ and Turismo de Portugal was elected as ‘Europe’s Leading Tourist Board. TAP Air Portugal won 3 awards including, Europe’s Leading Airline to Africa; Europe’s Leading Airline to South America; and Europe’s Leading Inflight Magazine.
Established in 1993, the World Travel Awards honors and rewards excellence across all sectors of the tourism industry offering one of the most prestigious and comprehensive awards program in travel and tourism, recognized worldwide as the hallmark of industry excellence. The winners are determined by an online vote cast by hundreds of travel professionals and consumers around the world.
