FIFA’’26 – Cristiano Ronaldo makes World Cup History – Houston, TX

Portugal’s squad delivered a commanding response to its opening-match disappointment at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, defeating Uzbekistan 5-0 today in Houston, Texas. The performance of captain Cristiano Ronaldo highlighted the match.

The milestone further cemented Ronaldo’s legacy as one of the greatest players in the history of the sport and silenced critics who questioned his role following the team’s opening draw. Portugal has now renewed their hopes of capturing the first FIFA World Cup championship in the nation’s history.

The 41-year-old forward scored twice, becoming the first player in football history to score in six different FIFA World Cups. Ronaldo’s goals also made him Portugal’s all-time leading World Cup scorer, surpassing the legendary Eusébio.

The victory followed Portugal’s 1-1 draw with the Democratic Republic of Congo and reaffirmed the Seleção’s status as one of the tournament’s leading contenders.

Supported by a talented generation that includes Bruno Fernandes, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, João Cancelo, and Rafael Leão, Portugal controlled the match from start to finish. The result leaves Portugal in a strong position in Group K ahead of a decisive final group-stage encounter against Colombia on Saturday, June 27, at 7:30 pm at Miami Stadium.

The upcoming Portugal-Colombia match in Miami Gardens is expected to determine first place in Group K and could significantly influence the team’s path to victory, securing Portugal the group title.

Portugal has entered the final group match with momentum, confidence, and one of football’s most remarkable stories. Ronaldo’s record-breaking achievement and Portugal’s victory over Uzbekistan have reinforced the belief that the Seleção possesses the experience, talent, and determination to make a deep run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. With Cristiano Ronaldo’s renewed scoring touch and the squad displaying both attacking and defensive organization, the tournament moves into a new and decisive phase.
