Filipa Sousa singing, Vida Minha, a song in the Portuguese fado style, was the finalist Saturday, by televote, of the 48th Festival da Canção promoted by the Portuguese national broadcaster Rádio Televisão Portuguesa (RTP).
The winner song will represent Portugal at the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Baku (Azerbaijan).
The Azerbaijani song was the winner in the 2011 Contest with Ell & Nikki’s singing “Running Scared.”
Last year, the musical troupe “Homens da Luta” represented Portugal in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 with the song A luta é alegria, finishing 18thplace in the first semifinal of the contest.
The Portuguese entry and representative will be chosen via a 50/50 televoting and jury deliberation. Portugal debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1964 and is yet to win the Eurovision Song Contest.
The Eurovision Song Contest is one of the longest running television shows in the world. It was on the 24th of May, 1956, that Europe saw the first ever Eurovision Song Contest.
Filipa Sousa, will represent Portugal in the second Semi-Final of the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest in Baku on the 24th of May.
Fado, the Portuguese national song, has recently been added to UNESCO’s World Heritage list.
