Community: Global Diaspora Network roadshow visits East Coast – Portugal

The Global Diaspora Network [Rede Global da Diaspora] is in the United States, between November 28 and December 2, with events in New York, Newark, Providence, and Boston, bringing together more than 150 American entrepreneurs of Portuguese descent.

The four cities will host the Portuguese roadshow representing the largest collaborative business platform visiting the Portuguese Diaspora in the East Coast.

The tour starts in New York on Monday, at an event in downtown Manhattan attended by the Consul General of Portugal in New York, Luisa Pais Lowe, the AICEP delegate João Mota Pinto, the chairman of the director of the Portugal-USA Chamber of Commerce, Rodrigo Carvalho, among other dignitaries.

The tour will proceed with an event in Newark, in the state of New Jersey, on November 29, followed by similar events in Providence, Rhode Island, on November 30, and Boston on December 1.

“The Portuguese-American population already exceeds one million people, with countless cases of Portuguese and/or Portuguese descendants who have created successful companies or who are a reference in various business sectors mainly in these states. Therefore, it makes perfect sense that the Global Diaspora Network includes these collectivities in its international roadshow,” the president of the AEP Foundation, Luís Miguel Ribeiro, said in a statement.

The initiative has the support of the Secretary of State for Portuguese Communities, the Consular Network, the Agency for the Investment and Foreign Trade of Portugal (AICEP), the Portugal-USA Chamber of Commerce, PALCUS, the Portuguese American Post-Graduate Society, and the Council of the Azorean Diaspora.

The Global Diaspora Network, is the largest Portugal based business network, with more than 7,500 members, representing 10,000 registered business entities, in 155 countries. Its goal to network and boost the internationalization of Portugal based companies by linking entrepreneurs in the Lusophone communities around the world, to promote business opportunities.

The international rodshows are promoted by the AEP Foundation [Associação Empresarial de Portugal] and supported by Portugal 2020, co-sponsored by the European Regional Development Fund.

Besides networking, the platform, through Rotas Lusitanas, aims to expanding business in new markets, identifying new distribution networks to increase exports, providing new business and investment opportunities, to promote the Portugal brand internationally, by allowing companies to identify the most appropriate distribution channels for each business and/or sector of activity.

By networking, entrepreneurs can find outlets to invest in, including incentives such as financing solutions through the Diaspora Business Intelligence, a working tool allowing companies to identify the most compatible distribution channels for their business.
