United States Secretary of Energy, Portuguese American nuclear physicist Dr. Ernest Moniz, will deliver the 92nd Stephen A. Ogden Jr. ’60 Memorial Lecture on International Affairs on Monday, April 18, at 4:00pm, in the Salomon Center for Teaching’s DeCiccio Family Auditorium on the College Green, at Brown University, Providence, RI.
With a presentation titled ‘The Iran Deal, Non-Proliferation and Global Nuclear Security,’ Ernest Moniz will discuss the Iran deal and global security in the context of President Barack Obama’s nuclear security agenda.
In 2013, President Barack Obama has appointed Ernest Moniz to head the US Department of Energy. Most recently, Dr. Moniz served as the founding Director of the MIT Energy Initiative and as Director of the MIT Laboratory for Energy and the Environment Most recently, Dr. Moniz served as the founding Director of the MIT Energy Initiative and as Director of the MIT Laboratory for Energy and the Environment. From 1997 until January 2001, Dr. Moniz served as Under Secretary of the Department of Energy. From 1997 until January 2001, Dr. Moniz served as Under Secretary of the Department of Energy.
Ernest Moniz has been described by many as having a brilliant scientific mind. He was born in 1944, in Fall River, Massachusetts, to Georgina (Pavão) Moniz and Ernest Perry Moniz, both of whose parents were Portuguese immigrants from São Miguel, Azores.
