Portuguese-American entrepreneur Manuel Eduardo Vieira, known as a world leader in organic sweet-potato farming, has been awarded the Comenda da Ordem do Infante D. Henrique, one of Portugal’s highest civilian honors.,
The decoration, in recognition of his accomplishments and outstanding contributions to the promotion of Portuguese culture, values, and excellence abroad, was conferred by the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, highlighting Vieira’s long-standing role as a distinguished representative of the Portuguese diaspora in the United States.

Originally from Silveira, on Pico Island in the Azores, where he was born in 1945, Vieira built a remarkable entrepreneurial career in California, where he founded and led A.V. Thomas Produce, transforming it into a world producer of organic sweet potatoes and yams.
His success has been driven by innovation, sustainable agricultural practices, and a commitment to responsible business, positioning his company as a benchmark in international agribusiness.
