Community | 41st Annual Heritage Day of Portugal in Massachusetts – Boston, MA

The 41st Annual Heritage Day of Portugal in Massachusetts, organized by the Portuguese American Legislative Caucus (PALC), will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at the Massachusetts State House. PALC is co-chaired by Rep. Antonio Cabral, along with Sen. Michael Rodrigues.

This annual event, inspired by the celebrations of June 10, Day of Portugal, honors the contributions of Portuguese-speaking communities across the Commonwealth and individuals who have made significant impacts in preserving and promoting Portuguese culture in the state.

Regional Secretary Duarte Freitas

This year’s Guest of Honor is Duarte Freitas, the Regional Secretary for Finance, Planning, and Public Administration of the Azores. Born in São Roque do Pico in 1966, Freitas has held various public roles, including Member of the European Parliament and President of the Social Democratic Party of the Azores. His participation underscores the strong ties between Massachusetts and the Azorean community.

The ceremony will recognize 22 individuals and 2 organizations for their dedication to preserving Portuguese culture and heritage. Notable honorees include Michael Benevides of Portugalia Marketplace, Professor Paula Noversa of UMass Dartmouth, and the Holy Ghost Society of Plymouth. The event will also feature cultural performances and traditional Portuguese cuisine.

Former Senator Marc Pacheco and the late Representative Carol Doherty will receive special recognition. The event will feature guest speakers and entertainment.

These events offer opportunities for communities to come together in celebration of Portuguese heritage and culture throughout the state. In addition to the State House celebration, several other events are taking place across Massachusetts to commemorate Portuguese heritage:
