About the Author

helenaloureiroHelena Loureiro was born in the central region of Portugal. Her passion for the culinary arts is confirmed soon: from 1983 to 1986, so she studied at the Lisbon Hospitality Institute and then worked in various Portuguese restaurants. In Montreal, Canada, upon her arrival in 1988, Helena perfect her training at the Institute of Tourism and Hospitality of Quebec, graduating in 1990. She worked as executive chef at The Vintage and the nursery Alexis Trotter where she worked for twelve years. Helena became chef owner of the restaurant Portus Calle, a Portuguese cuisine restaurant upscale it opened on 7 March 2003. She regales her guests since its exquisite dishes that were matched by her warm presence and passion for her craft. Her restaurants — Portus Calle, Restaurant Helena, and the charming Cantinho de Lisboa eat-in and take-out market — have become Montreal institutions, and through them she shares the riches of Portuguese culture.
