For a little girl whose daddy is a fisherman in the #1 fishing port in the world, goodbyes are never easy. But before he leaves for sea, her parents share a special secret―a magical bag of kisses that keeps their love close, no matter how far the waves carry him.
As the days pass and the ocean stretches wide between them, the bag becomes a powerful reminder that love doesn’t disappear with distance. With warmth, imagination, and heartfelt reassurance, this touching story helps children navigate separation with comfort and confidence.
Bag of Kisses is a beautifully written picture book about the unbreakable bond between a father and daughter. Perfect for families experiencing time apart due to fishing, military service, travel, or demanding careers, this story offers children a tangible way to feel connected, secure, and deeply loved.
A comforting story of love, resilience, and the simple traditions that hold families together―even across the sea.
About the Author
Melanie Pereira was born and raised in New Bedford, Massachusetts, the youngest child of Portuguese immigrant parents from the Algarve region. Growing up in a fishing family taught her about courage, patience, and love.
Now a mom to her son, Alijah, and a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Melanie helps children and families find hope and healing every day. She wrote Bag of Kisses based on a true story her mother shared when her father was away at sea―a story meant to remind every child that no matter the distance, love always finds its way home.
