Azores: Summer School for Teachers of Portuguese – Update

The Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD), in partnership with the Government the Azores, through the Office for the Azorean Communities (DRC), the Camões Institute and the North American Portuguese Teachers Association, has announced the second edition of the Summer School in the Azores for Teachers of Portuguese in the United States to take place in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel island.

Limited to 20 participants, the program is scheduled to run from July 16 through July 27 and will be administered and certified by the University of the Azores. Participants will qualify to receive PDPs through Lesley University.

The program includes a curricular section aimed at the deepening and improvement of competences in the teaching of Portuguese language and culture and field visits aimed at the immersion in Portuguese society and culture (museums, tourist walks, institutions, etc.).

Teachers of Portuguese language and culture in United States at educational establishments, lecturing at basic, secondary and university levels are encouraged to apply.

Costs are estimated at US$4,000 per participant to include fees, flights, accommodation, meals and local transport for the cultural program. Scholarships are available to selected applicants. The applications deadline was extended to May 31.
