Starting June 4, TAP Air Portugal has announced it is resuming flights between Portugal and the United States offering two flights per week between Lisbon and Newark.
In addition, TAP has plans to expanding its gateways to Portugal to include weekly flights from Boston, Miami and Toronto in the near future.
On July 1, TAP plans to add three new routes to include Boston and Ponta Delgada in the Azores and on July 2, a twice a week flight between Toronto and Ponta Delgada. On July 30, a three weekly flight between Montreal and Lisbon will be added.
Domestically, TAP will fly to Madeira twice daily from Lisbon and twice weekly from Porto. In the Azores, Ponta Delgada will have a daily service from Lisbon, while Terceira will have three flights per week. Faro, in the Algarve, will have a twice daily flights.
By the end of July, in addition to increasing domestic service, Air Portugal will have restored 19 percent of its previous global network, or 247 flights per week, in total, including 21 destinations in Europe and the network of flights to South America (Recife, Fortaleza), Africa (Dakar, Luanda, Maputo, Praia, São Vicente and Sal) and throughout Europe (Brussels, Geneva, Zurich, Frankfort, Hamburg, Berlin, London, Dublin, Paris, Nice, Lyon, Amsterdam, Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Málaga, Luxembourg, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Milan and Rome).
On a particular note, the airline has developed and implemented the Clean & Safe initiative, aiming at establishing hygiene safety protocols to avoid in flight COVID’19 contamination, in line with the interntional health and sanitary safety guidelines of EASA, IATA, DGS and UCS.
Cancellations and/or rescheduling: Passengers holding tickets until September 30, 2020, are current as long as the ticket s were issued by May 15, Flights can be rescheduled free of charge and benefit from an additional discount of $25 to $100. Before the COVID’19 outbreak,TAP operated around 2,500 flights per week. North America was one of the company’s three main international markets. By the summer of 2020, in total, TAP projected to operate 82 weekly round trips from nine gateways in North America to Portugal.
TAP served seven US airports namely from Boston Logan, Chicago O’Hare (ORD), Miami (MIA), New York (JFK), Newark (EWR), San Francisco (SFO) and Washington Dulles (IAD). In Canada, Montreal became TAP’s second gateway to Lisbon in addition to Toronto Pearson.
Before the crisis, TAP operated from 7 airports in North America, 10 in Brazil, 1 in Venezuela, 16 in Africa, and approximately 70 in Europe. Visit TAP official website here.
