16th International Triennal Conference – Lisbon

The International Council of Museums  is organizing the 16th International ICOM-CC Triennal Conference to take place in Lisbon, from September 19 – 23, 2011, at Centro de Congressos de Lisboa.

The conference theme Cultural Heritage/Cultural Identity: The Role of Conservation aims to capture the recognition by communities or nations of the importance of affirming their cultural heritage in this era of globalization, as they evolve through contact and exchange with other cultures.

The conference will explore and compare different approaches regarding conservation policies and methods, as well as scientific methods for studying materials and technologies, in order to improve the understanding of the role of conservation in valuing heritage and its relationship to other areas such as sociology, economy, and politics.

Limited travel grants are available through the Getty Foundation.  To qualify applicants must be professionals with a minimum of 3 years’ experience who are currently employed in a museum or related institution.  Special consideration will be given to individual members of ICOM, or Friend members of ICOM-CC, or those working for an institution that is an institutional member of ICOM.

The 15th Triennial Conference was held in New Dehli, India, from 22 to 26 September 2008.
