The Walk & Talk International Public Art Festival is returning to the island of São Miguel, Azores, a world destination for creative tourists with interest in public art projects. On its third edition, the event will take place from July 12 through July 27.
Founded in 2011 by local artists Diana Sousa and Jesse James, the festival has become part of the international arts calendar. Last year, 80 artists from 11 nationalities participated in the festival, among them world renowned Alexandre Farto (Vhils). Mark Jenkins, Okudda and REMED.
This year, over 50 artists are expected to showcase their public art interventions, from visual arts to performing arts and architecture, including mural painting, installation, sculpture, dance, music, and video creations.
According to organizers, the festival provides artists with a “residency model that encourages creation in permanent dialogue with public space.” Its activities are focused in promoting and stimulating contemporary artistic expressions that enhance “new ways of thinking, interpretation and renewed visions within the Azorean population,” by introducing new aesthetic perspectives in the local cultural scene.
Characterized by its bold collective street art displays, the Walk &Talk Festival is now responsible for the creation of a living arts community in the Azores and for turning the São Miguel island into an open contemporary art museum represented by 62 public art interventions.
