Survey | Portugal Top Destination for Moving Abroad – Expatsi, US

A comprehensive new survey by Expatsi, a platform based in the US specializing in international relocation guidance, has named Portugal the number one country for Americans planning to move abroad.

According to the findings, which analyzed responses from more than 116,000 US residents who completed the platform’s signature 20-question assessment, Expatsi helps users evaluate their ideal destinations based on preferences such as climate, healthcare, safety, political stability, cost of living, and visa accessibility.

The report reveals that a growing number of Americans are motivated to leave the US due to concerns about rising political polarization, high living costs, and a desire for greater personal safety and work-life balance.

Among survey respondents, 56% said the US feels “too conservative,” 53% cited increasing political division, and 41% were seeking financial relief.

Portugal emerged as the preferred destination thanks to its affordability, welcoming atmosphere, high quality of life, and favorable visa options such as the D7 retirement visa and digital nomad programs.

The Expatsi Report (2024) also revealed that two-thirds of respondents said they plan to relocate by 2026, with 12% intending to move within the next six months.

Accordingly, as interest in global mobility increases, Portugal’s status as a top-tier destination reflects both practical advantages and a broader lifestyle shift among US residents seeking new beginnings .

The top 10 destinations include Portugal, followed by Spain, the United Kingdom, Canada, Italy, Ireland, France, Mexico, and New Zealand.

Expatsi offers tailored guidance, relocation planning tools, webinars, and scouting trips to help Americans navigate life abroad.
