Ponta Delgada city, in São Miguel, the main city in the Azores, with a population of about 64.000, is preparing to host 10,000 tourists on a single day from three visiting cruise ships scheduled to arrive on May 14th.
The “Celebrity Constellation” – 964 feet long — with 2,449 passengers and a crew of 1,001 — is scheduled to arrive at 7am and depart at 2pm.
One hour later the “Crown Princess” — 951 feet long — is expected to arrive bringing 3,114 passengers and a crew of 1,163 to depart at 5pm.
The “Norwegian Epic” — 1,081 feet long — is scheduled to arrive at 10am with 4,200 passengers and a crew of 1,500 departing at 6pm.
Between passengers and crew a total of 13,147 guests are expected to spend the day visiting the city.
Azorean authorities in Ponta Delgada are organizing special events for May 14 aimed at welcoming the visitors and promoting the region.
