US wins Algarve Cup – Portugal

 The U.S. women’s national soccer team won  today its eighth Algarve Cup title, Wednesday March 9, beating Iceland, 4-2, in the final in Faro, Portugal. Diamond Bar’s Alex Morgan netted the final goal, winning the Golden Boot as the 12-nation event’s top scorer.

Lauren Cheney tied the score in the 43rd minute and Heather O’Reilly got the go-ahead goal in the 57th, as the United States beat Iceland, 4-2, in Faro, Portugal, for its eighth Algarve Cup title.

The American team, preparing for the June 26-July 17 Women’s World Cup in Germany, will  play next England on April 2 in London.
