Funding for Portuguese at University of Arizona- LCTLs

The UA’s Center for Educational Resources in Culture, Language, and Literacy has earned a $1.3 million federal grant to continue its mission of helping improve the instruction and learning of languages least commonly taught (LCTLS).

The languages targeted in this project are Chinese, Portuguese and Russian.

At $1.3 million, the grant will support 12 projects over the next four years that will prmarily improve the instruction and learning of less commonly taught languages critical to national security such as Arabic, Persian, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese and Russian.

Less Commonly Taught Languages (or LCTLs) is a designation used in the United States for languages other than the three most commonly taught foreign languages in US public schools: Spanish, French, and German.
