Travel: SATA Airlines to boost flights from Boston and Toronto – Azores

Azores based SATA Airlines has announced that starting October 28 it will strengthen air links between the Azores and the United States and Canada with new weekly flights from to Boston and Toronto.

The number of weekly flights will gradually increase next summer when SATA will have a daily flight from Boston to Ponta Delgada and six times a week from Toronto to Ponta Delgada.

During the low season SATA Airlines will offer three flights a week from Boston and two flights a week from Toronto.

The increased service will allow for price reductions between 16 percent and 57 percent due to economies of scale.

A recent agreement between SATA and U.S. Airways has also added new flight connections from Chicago and New York. In addition, SATA offers flight connections from San Francisco in partnership with Virgin America Airlines.

SATA also formed a partnership with Canadian Westjet, the second largest Canadian airline, to provide air services between the Canada and the Azores. Under the agreement, SATA offers flights between Canada and to Azores through Toronto and Montreal with connecting flights from Winnipeg, Vancouver, Calgary or Ottawa.

Since 1947, the SATA Group has provided air service linking the nine islands of the Azores with Portugal’s mainland. The airline offers regular air service between the nine islands of the Azores, as well as to Lisbon and Porto in mainland Portugal,  to Funchal on the island of Madeira and Madrid, Spain.
