President of the University of Macau honored – Lisbon

 A group of 12 Portuguese universities honored Dr.Wei Zhao, President of the University of Macau, with the degree of doctor “honoris causa” in recognition for his  achievements as an educator and also for the reforms he has implemented at the University of Macau.

The ceremony  took place on March 20 at the Lisbon Academy of Sciences sponsored by the Universidade do Porto, Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Universidade de Aveiro, Universidade do Minho, Universidade de Évora, Universidade dos Açores, Universidade do Algarve, Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, Universidade da Beira Interior, Universidade da Madeira e Instituto Universitário de Lisboa – ISCTE.

The Department of Portuguese at the University of Macau is the largest department of Portuguese Studies in Asia, with the largest staff and student enrollment, and the greatest diversity of study programs.

The University of Macau offers undergraduate and graduate courses in Portuguese Studies, including a postgraduate program in Portuguese Language and Culture, a Masters Degree in Translation, and a Doctoral program in Linguistics, in Literary and Translation Studies.

The Research Center at the University of Macau comprises five areas: Sociolinguistics and Creole Linguistics, Acquisition of Portuguese as a Foreign Language, Pedagogy of Portuguese as a Foreign Language, Translation and Interpretation, and the History of Portuguese Asia.
