Portuguese food and wine at the Society of Wine Educators Conference – RI

Portuguese wine and food will be celebrated at the 35th edition of the Society of Wine Educators annual international conference taking place August 3-5, in Providece (RI), at the Crown Plaza Hotel, sponsored by  Johnson & Wales University.

Over 50 sessions will highlight the theme “A Food and Wine Experience” celebrating the food and wines from Portugal, Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Chile, South Africa, Greece, Canada and the US.

This year’s Plenary session will focus on Portugal. There will be three different topics covered: The New Wave of Women Winemakers; a multi-course luncheon paired with Portuguese wines, prepared by Henrique Sá Pessoa, Lisbon’s leading Chef; and a comparative tasting of fortified wines, including Port, Madeira, and Moscatel.

Guests will learn of Portugal’s brilliant assortment of wines and will discover how Portuguese wines can complement various palates.

In addition to guided tastings, which include spirits, specialty cocktails, beer and tea, there are also sessions on the art and science of teaching, wine writing, marketing, social media, wine classification.

In the two days preceding the Conference (August 1st and 2nd), certification exams for the CSW, CSS and CWE exams will be given. And following the Conference, there will be a Winery Tour of Rhode Island.
