Open: Research Fellowship Program at the National Library – Portugal

Lisbon-based National Library of Portugal (Biblioteca National de Portugal) is sponsoring the Research Fellowship Programme aimed to American scholars interested in conducting research projects at the national archives.

The month long fellowship, co-sponsored by the Lisbon-based Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD), is offered every two years. Researchers, teachers, students, and librarians are encouraged to apply.

Manuscripts and other special collections (maps, prints, music, and literary archives) will be made available to researchers including accessibility for the visually impaired.

Established in 1796, the National Library of Portugal (BNP) holds over 3 million documents including rare collections of imprints and manuscripts, and unique collections of newspapers and serials.

The Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD) is a grant making organization which sponsors initiatives to promote scientific and cultural exchanges between Portugal and the United States.

The application form must be accompanied by the candidate’s curriculum vitae, plan and time of studies, certificate of the tutelary institution and letters of recommendation. Deadline for applications is July 28, 2013.
