ILP: 2nd Annual Disquiet International Literary Program – Portugal

The International Literary Program (ILP), a project of Dzanc Books, has announced its 2nd Annual Disquiet International Literary Program (DISQUIET 2012) to take place July 1-13, in Lisbon, Portugal. The program will feature some of the most interesting contemporary writers from North America and Portugal.

ILP is currently accepting entries for its International Literature Award. Poetry, fiction, and non-fiction are equally welcome.

The winner will be awarded a free trip to DISQUIET 2012 and publication in Guernica. The deadline for contest and scholarships is January 31, 2012. DISQUIET 2012 will offer workshops and discussion groups with Portuguese-American writers and Portuguese writers in Lisbon.

DISQUIET Lisbon 2012 faculty and guests also include George Saunders, Junot Diaz, Robert Olmstead, Denise Duhamel, Frank X. Gaspar, Christine Humee, Anthony De Sa, Sally Ashton, Philip Graham and Portuguese writers Gonçalo M. Tavares, Jacinto Lucas Pires, Patricia Reis, and many others.

Full scholarships are available for writers of Luso descent. To be eligible applicants must be residents of the United States or Canada with a genealogical link to a Lusophone country.

The scholarships are provided by the Luso-American Development Foundation and Instituto Camões.

Dzanc Books was created in 2006 to advance great writing and champion those writers who don’t fit neatly into the marketing niches of for-profit presses.

The ILP’s mission is to deepen mutual understanding between writers of North American and writers around the world and to broaden the landscape of North American literature and arts outside of the borders of North America.

The Dzanc Books’ International Literary Program is affiliated with the Centro Nacional de Cultura, Fundação Luso-Americana, CETAPS-FCSH (Centre for English, Translation and Anglo-Portuguese Studies) at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and Universidade de Lisboa.
