EUSA: Faial hosting the First Atlantic Forum – Azores

The first meeting of the EUSA Atlantic Forum will take place on September 21, 2012, in the Azores.

Under the theme “Coastal and Deep Sea Natural Resources”, the event will be held at Sociedade Amor da Pátria, Horta city, Faial Island.

This is the first event of the first series of  five international workshops. Forthcoming events will take place in Brest, France; Bilbao, Spain; Cardiff, UK; and Galway, Ireland.

Launched in November 2011 by the European Commission, the EU Strategy for the Atlantic (EUSA) identifies a number of areas for EU-level action to support the coastal and maritime economies of the Member States along the Atlantic seaboard.

The Atlantic Forum was established in 2012, by the European Commission, to assist the process of developing an Action Plan, in partnership with national, regional and local authorities as well as industry and civil society.

The Forum will comprise a set of workshops focused on the challenges and opportunities outlined in the strategy and an online discussion forum. The Forum will be dissolved in 2013. The Action Plan will be implemented through 2014 – 2020.
