10th Annual Summer Study Abroad – Scholarship

The 10th Annual Summer Study Abroad  will take place on July 12-10, 2011, in Lisbon, Portugal. The program offers two courses (6 credits) in political science, taught exclusively in English, that focus on the European Union’s impact on Portugal’s economy, society, and politics.

The courses also examine comparative lessons for other small, open and relatively peripheral economies both inside and outside of the Eurozone. Faculty are from the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth  (Michael Baum, Associate Professor), LaSalle University (Miguel Glatzer, Assistant Professor), and the Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestao (Antonio Goucha Soares, Professor), where the classes are held. Numerous field trips to sites in and around Lisbon, Coimbra, the Setubal Peninsula, and the Alentejo Region are included in the price.

Graduate or undergraduate credit is available. Assuming permission from the student’s home institution, credits earned through the University of Massachusetts, would be transferable.  The cost is $3900, everything included but airfare and some food.  Some partial scholarships are available to qualified students who apply by March 1, 2011.
